You’ve taken the Living History Tour.  You’ve had lunch at the Warehouse Steak n’ Stein.  Your wife has posed for snapshots under the Whitewoman Street sign and disappeared into the Garden Gate

Now it’s time to send the kids for hand-dipped ice cream at the Candy Bouquet shop and slip away to every man’s favorite shop in Roscoe Village.

Of all the shops and exhibits in Roscoe Village, River Ridge Leather Company is the most faithful to the 19th-century history and heritage of Roscoe Village Ohio.

And the shop is operated not by actors, but genuine craftsmen working every day to produce authentic goods with traditional methods.

Dennis Knight and his journeyman apprentices man the shop daily Wednesday thru Sunday until June 1st.

And no tour ticket is required to visit this authentic canal-era leather shop.

Using only traditional hand tools and traditional leatherworking methods, River Ridge Leather Company produces extraordinary one-of-a-kind leather goods made entirely on the premises.

You can find River Ridge Leather Company in the original James LeRetilley building next to Uncorked on Whitewoman Street.  It is truly the best place in Roscoe Village to see a master craftsman at work.

It’s also the best place to ask what happened to the Inn and the hardware store.  Click here to visit River Ridge Leather Co. online.

Roscoe Village Guitar Heroes

Roscoe Village is a fantastic day trip and weekend getaway with great dining and some of the most unique shopping you’ll find in Ohio.

Set on the old Erie Canal, deep in the Appalachian foothills of Ohio, the entire Roscoe Village experience is an authentic slice of 19th century Americana.

And once in a while on a stroll down Whitewoman Street, when the breeze is just right you can hear an occasional pluck of a banjo string from somewhere in the background.

Don’t be alarmed.  That joyful twanging comes from the most famous shop in Roscoe Village:

Wildwood Music

Professional musicians and collectors will instantly recognize Wildwood Music as the home of the one of the most complete collections of high-end Taylor, Martin and Larrivee guitars found in one place.

Wildwood Music Shop is a guitar player’s paradise.  With a rotating collection of more than 400 new, handmade and custom-built, one-of-kind instruments on hand it’s easy to see why their average customer makes an 8-hour trek to find them.

Much more than guitars, when you find Wildwood Music you’ll find an amazing array of other incredible acoustic instruments, including mountain and hammered dulcimers and the finest custom-made banjos in the world.

Wildwood Music is located in the historic Lockkeeper’s House in Roscoe Village – across the street from the Triple Locks Theater, next to the Canal Basin on the Towpath Trail.

If you park at the Village Visitor’s Center, you can’t miss it.   If you’re a real music lover, you shouldn’t.
