Every year, around Memorial Day weekend, Hummingbirds begin to return to Roscoe Village Ohio.
Hummingbirds nest along our tree-lined Whitewoman Street and among the surrounding hills. They pollinate our prized Roscoe Village Pocket Gardens and buzz through The Garden Gate Shop to greet our shoppers.
Hummingbirds are among the most beautiful and mysterious of God’s creatures and we’re grateful to have them here. That’s why we take steps to attract and provide a healthy habitat for them in Historic Roscoe Village.
Did you know that you can easily attract Hummingbirds to visit your home every year?
Hummingbirds have amazingly high metabolic rates to support their unusual manner of flight and they must feed constantly and consume enormous amounts of food to survive from season to season.
In fact, to survive even one night, a Hummingbird must consume more than its weight in nectar — every single day.
Knowing that the busy, hungry Hummingbird is constantly searching for good food sources, you can begin to attract Hummingbirds to your home garden simply by providing them with a reliable and attactive food source.
Hummingbirds prefer very colorful nectar-producing flowers – especially those in the red, orange and pink range. Potted Geraniums and flowering Sage are among the best attractors for Hummingbirds, as are several annual flowering plants like Irises and Petunias.
In addition to nectar from colorful flowers, Hummingbirds need good sources of fresh water. One of the best
ways to provide them with a good water and food supply is to place an attractive Hummingbird Feeder in your garden.
To find out how to attract Hummingbirds to your garden, stop at The Garden Gate Shop on your next trip to Roscoe Village. We love to welcome these tiny creatures to our garden and we’ll be happy to show you how to bring them home to yours.
