Begun by Roscoe Village matriarch Frances B. Montgomery, the December 12th Christmas

Candlelighting ceremony is the 40th anniversary of this event in Roscoe Village Ohio.

This heart-warming and beautiful ceremony features the evening lighting of the village Christmas Tree and the passing of the light from candle-to-candle through the crowd as the choir leads the singing of “Silent Night.”  [See the video at right]

As Mrs. Montgomery always intended, the Candlelighting Ceremony is a free event for all, and visitors are cordially invited to enjoy the whole day in the Village.

And Roscoe Village merchants have made special arrangements for special activities for children throughout the day, including horse-drawn sleigh rides and visits with Santa.

The Roscoe Village Christmas Tree and Candlelighting Ceremony begins with a special dedication and free cookies and mulled-cider drinks at 6:00 p.m.

Don’t forget to meet honorary candle lighter Bill Hixson at The Garden Gate Shop from noon-6:00 p.m.

Candle lighting begins

Saturday December 5th, 2009

The first of three Roscoe Village Candlelighting Ceremonies will be held this Saturday, December 5th.

The ceremony begins at 6:00 p.m.

Old-fashioned, authentic and genuinely beautiful, Christmas Candlelighting is our favorite time of the year.

With strolling Christmas carolers and horse-drawn carriage rides throughout the day, mulled cider and cookies in the evening and Santa Claus entertaining children in the afternoon, Christmas Candlelighting is the best time of year for a family visit to Roscoe Village.

As every year, the Candlelighting Ceremony begins just after dark at 6:00 p.m. with a special choir performance and dedication.

The ceremony lasts for thirty minutes as the candle light spreads from one candle to another until every candle in the village has been lighted and all have exchanged Christmas cheer.

For a glimpse of the ceremony from last year, view the video at right
to see 200 joyful visitors singing “Silent Night”
as the candle lightspreads through the crowd.

Use the handy controls on the player to enlarge the video.

After the ceremony, all Roscoe Village shops are open for evening shopping.  And to help you celebrate the official beginning of the Christmas season, each restaurant is open late for dinner and drinks.

The Honorary Candle Lighter at the first ceremony will be State Representative Troy Balderson.
