Quilt art exhibit opens at the JH Museum in Roscoe Village

The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum in Roscoe VIllage Ohio is opening its newest exhibit on Saturday May 16.
Pushing The Surface is a biennial exhibit of 24 art quilts by renowned American and international quilt artists. The collection is displayed daily at the museum through August 9, 2009.
Unlike Grandma’s dusty old quilts, the textile art pieces in this exhibit fuse many techniques into the traditional craft of quilting with spectacular results – pushing the surface of traditional comfort to a new level of artistry.
Just like Grandma’s quilts, though, you can’t take a nap on these.
Instead, you should take the tour of the Pushing The Surface exhibit and see the J-H Museum’s amazing permanent exhibits and collections of Native American art, Ohio history, European decorative arts and weaponry all summer long.
Pushing The Surface opens Saturday May 16 and continues all summer long. For tours, tickets and a peek inside the amazing Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum in Roscoe Village Ohio click here.
WHEN YOU GO: Combine your tour of the quilt exhibit at the JH Museum, with a guided tour of Clary Gardens — the new public botanical garden around the corner from Historic Roscoe Village. Clary Gardens is open every day and tours are free. Call (740) 622-6524 if you need to be convinced about “free” and “open to the public.”

Let it snow, let it snow

The first real snowfall of winter is arriving in Roscoe Village, covering Whitewoman Street, the Towpath Trail and the Woodlands at Clary Gardens and transforming our local vineyards into stunning winterscapes.
Roscoe Village is beautiful in winter, draped in a thick white blanket that enhances the charm of this authentically restored 18th-century Ohio Canal Town.
Unlike the nearby Basket Village in Dresden, Roscoe Village shops are open all year long. Our streets and sidewalks are cleared swept by 10:00 a.m. every day. And when the shops and restaurants in Ohio’s Amish Country close to tourists on Sunday, Roscoe Village welcomes all visitors.
Our nextdoor neighbors Lake Park and Clary Gardens have rolling hills for sledding and are open to the public every day. A walk down the Towpath Trail is one of Roscoe Village’s best adventures and is especially glorious in wintertime, with stunning cascades of icicles and mountains of snow drifts.
And when it’s time to get warm again, Uncorked and The Olde Warehouse serve hot chocolate all day and night.
