The Warehouse Steak n’ Stein in Roscoe Village now serves hand-crafted microbrews from Weasel Boy Brewing Co.

Craft-brewed at the only local microbrewery in nearby Zanesville Ohio, Weasel Boy Brews are on tap in both the Steak n’ Stein restaurant and P.R. Nye’s Lock 27 Tavern.

Weasel Boy Brewing is located in Zanesville’s Historic Putnam District, next to Muddy Misers Cool River Cafe.

Make your own beer at The Winemaker’s Cellar

March 2, 2009 by

In the bygone days of the canal era, long before refrigeration and pasteurization, many Ohio farmers made their own beer from excess grain production every fall.

Spring was a day of celebration here, for more reasons than just the turn of the season.

While the Living History Tour guides might like to keep it hush-hush, you can trust us to tell you that the Ohio & Erie Canal was awash in beer.

And at nearly every stop along the old Ohio & Erie Canal thirsty travelers could find a friendly place for a beer — just like you can today at Uncorked and the Lock 27 Tavern in Roscoe Village.

One of the best ways to sample the history of uur authentic canal-era town — and take some of the experience with you — is with a beer kit from the Winemaker’s Cellar in Roscoe Village.

The Winemaker’s Cellar stocks two dozen home brewed beer kits that you can use to start making your own beer at home tonight.  Along with any of a dozen wine making kits available too, you can learn to master the craft of home brewing and make yours the most popular house in your neighborhood.

Home-brewing can be as complicated or as simple as you’d like to make it.  But kits like this Cooper’s IPA couldn’t be easier to make.  Simply add hot water and wait 7 days.

Spring will arrive in Roscoe Village in less than three weeks.  That’s 18 days from today.

The Wine Maker’s Cellar is located inside the Canal Cargo Shop in Historic Roscoe Village.  The cellar keeps irregular hours, but it’s well worth a visit.  (And cellarkeeper Jeff Wright can tell you what happened to the old hardware store.)
